Sample S. Barber was a United States soldier during the Spanish American War in 1898.

He was from Greensboro, North Carolina, and enlisted on April 30th, 1898, for two years service. He was mustered into service as a Private in Company D of the 2nd North Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment on May 9th, 1898, and served with the regiment in North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina, until he died of illness on August 26th, 1898, at Lands End, South Carolina.
