BLACK SHEEP----or VICTIM??

Vaughn is the MYSTERY in our Babb family history! He disappeared in 1919-20 without a trace, and it is unknown whether he was killed or chose to disappear. No one in the extended Babb family ever heard from him again.

He was the 5th child (3rd son) born to William Marion Babb and his first wife, Susan Caldonia Loner.

He married Ruth Frazier on 6 June 1917, when he was almost 27 years old. He and Ruth had one child, a daughter, also named Ruth.

When Vaughn disappeared, he was carrying a large sum of money that belonged to his employers, and some have speculated that he may have been waylaid and murdered, with the body so well hidden that it has never been discovered. Others believe, he took advantage of the money to disappear with it, starting a new life in some other place. At that time, 1919, it was far easier to disappear without a trace, since there was as yet no Social Security number to track one by.

Since he left his older brother, Luther Babb, with some large debts that Luther had co-signed for him, it is hoped that he did not choose to betray his brother. We may never know in this lifetime what happened to Vaughn.
