|Death: ||Sep. 17, 1862|
Civil War Union Soldier. This eighteen year old enlisted in New York City, New York on December 16, 1861. The same day he entered the ranks of Company H, 51st New York Infantry as a Private. This regiment was present at the battle that produced the bloodiest day of the war – Antietam. It is probable that Private Miller was in ear shot of the voice of Edward Ferrero when this officer spoke to them on September 17, 1862 at the height of the battle:
"It is General Burnside's special request that the two 51sts take that bridge (Burnside's Bridge). Will you do it?"
It is not known when or how Private Miller met his fate, but it is acknowledged that this obedient soldier, along with his regiment, attempted to "take that bridge". It was during this effort that he lost his young life.
