JOSEPH - It is with deep sorrow that the family of Arthur Edward Joseph, Jr., only son of Arthur Edward Joseph Sr. and Thora (Renault) Joseph, announces his passing on Thursday August 2nd at his home in Jacksonville, Fl. He leaves to mourn his death his devoted wife and best friend of 27 years, Lindsey Joseph, his daughter and light of his life Giselle Pheanious, grandchildren Darryl and Briana, greatgrandchildren Kamiyah and Ty'Jah, loving cousins Vaneva Josephs, Barry Bonner, Jane Bonner, Claxton Tyson clan relatives, the Josephs and Green families and many dear friends and colleagues. Arthur was born in New Haven, Connecticut, February 28th 1941. As a child he attended catholic school and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Anthropology Summa Cum Laude from the University Of Massachusetts and a Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. Arthur was a Nationally Board Certified Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist for 35 years and was well respected in his field. Arthur was employed for 11 years by Yale University Department of Psychiatry/Connecticut Mental Health as Director of Screening and Evaluation DDU, Director of Alpha House Youth Services division, an Assistant Director Youth Services Division, family therapist and program developer; Arthur contracted with the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections to develop and direct Isaiah House 61:1, a criminal justice halfway house for men in 1983 that is still in existence and has expanded to include women. In 1992, Arthur consulted to develop the first of its kind Fatherhood Support and Nurturing program for Hill Health Center Prenatal Department in New Haven, Connecticut which has been duplicated across the country. Both of Arthur's parents were from the Caribbean and he loved hot weather. In 1994 Arthur convinced Lindsey to relocate to Jacksonville, Fl. where he worked for Daniel Memorial/Clay County Behavioral Services as program director and manager; St Augustine Youth Services and The Jacksonville Youth Sanctuary as a Special Needs Therapist to children; Intensive Crisis Counseling Therapist with Child Guidance Center and a Child and Family Therapist with Northwest Behavioral Health Services before retiring in 2005. Arthur was a gifted Artist. While attending undergraduate school, he enrolled in the Famous Artists School in Westport, Connecticut and attended The Paier College of Art and The Creative Arts Workshop in New York, studying oil painting, technique, design and photography. His works in sculpture, oil and pen & ink have been exhibited and sold in Connecticut, Florida and New York galleries, juried shows, and the internet. Prior to his death, Arthur completed his soon to be published autobiography. Arthur was a member in good standing of the Widow Son's Masonic Lodge #1 in New Haven, Connecticut, the National Association of Black Social Workers and an avid supporter of grassroots politics.
