Hershel Lee Kell, age 79, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012 at Camelot Manor Nursing Care.

He was the son of James Owen Kell and Minnie WHITLOCK Kell and was born on July 27, 1933 in East Prairie, Missouri. His maternal grandparents were Matilda DAVIS Whitlock and George Washington Whitlock, Jr.

Hershel was only 17 years old when he left East Prairie and went on to open up a newspaper stand to earn his income. Later, he went to school to learn the ministry. From then on he preached the word of God as his life's work. He lived in Hudson, North Carolina for over 40 years.

Hershel married his first wife, Marjorie HARRIS Stamey-Kell, who preceded him in death. Also, preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers, one sister, and one grandchild.

At the time of his death, he was married to Lena GULLEY Kell. Besides Lena, his other survivors included his step-children, Ruby McRary, Roger Stamey and his wife, Jean, Edna Mae Blair and her husband, Joe. He was, also, survived by his sister, Shirley Edelstein and her husband, Milton, and brothers, Carroll Kell and his wife, Eleanor, and Paul Kell, and eight step-grandchildren, twelve step great-grandchildren, and six step great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of the life of Hershell Lee Kell was held on January 2, 2013. He was much loved and will be so missed by his family and all who knew him.
