"Sunday afternoon at 2:30 June 17th, a Memorial Service will be held in Providence Baptist Church in honor of the two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew McCorkle who were lost in battle.

Andrew P. McCorkle, whom we all called Pruitt, was killed on the Normandy Beachhead, June 8, 1944. James E. McCorkle, known to us as Eugene, died on an Iwo Jima Hospital Ship, March 20, 1945 from wounds received on the battlefield where he had tried to render medical aid to a fallen comrade and was the target of Japanese machine gun fire.

A Bugler and an Escort of soldiers under a non-commissioned officer, will arrive from Fort Benning for military participation in the service.
