Bettie Jane (Hardesty) Evans, 80, of Fairmont, formerly of Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at her daughter's home in Pleasant Valley.

She was born in Fairmont on November 30, 1931, a daughter of the late John J. and Edith Jane (Martin) Hardesty.

Bettie worked for Buckeye Box Company, working in the cardboard assembly division. She was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop Leader. She loved the outdoors. She enjoyed water skiing, boating, camping, traveling and being with her grandchildren. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and her job.

She is survived by her children, Shari Lou Trimmer of St. Augustine, FL, Steven J. Evans and his wife Cheryl of Cincinnati, John M. Evans and his wife Danese of Columbus, Ohio and Kimberly Riggs and her husband David of Pleasant Valley, 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Henry Hardesty and his wife Mary of Fairmont, Kenny Hardesty and his wife Carol of Hoult Community and Tom Hardesty and his wife Darlene of Hoult Community and two sisters, Martha Lanham of Sanford Community and Ola Yoston and her husband Alan of Millersville Community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Isome Evans, three sisters, Nellie Bower, Isabella Hughes, and Glendia Nestor Neel, three brothers, Homer E. Hardesty, Edward "Sonny" Hardesty and John Hardesty in infancy, a great-nephew, Jacob Bower, a great-niece, Shannon Bower, a brother-in-law, Junior Lanham and a sister-in-law, Diane Hardesty.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. Fairmont on Saturday from 10 11am. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11 am with Pastor Matthew Chapell officiating.

In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, her body will be cremated following the service.
