Edwin Lawton "Cappy" Higgins (1932-2008), born August 16, 1932 at San Pedro, California, was a son of Albert Grant Higgins (1881-1933) and Psyche Inghram Higgins Wilmoth (1892-1946). Edwin is the namesake of his paternal grandfather, Captain Edwin Lawton Higgins (1840-1912), veteran of the Civil War. Thus the nickname "Cappy" was given to young Edwin who bore the honored name of his grandfather the Civil War "Captain." At age 7, in the 1940 census, young Edwin is listed as "Cappy."

Edwin lived most of his life at San Pedro and graduated from Saint Anthony's College Preparatory High School, Long Beach, Class of 1951. He served in the Air Force from 1951-55.
Following his service in the Air Force, Edwin began a career in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry and was a member of Local 250 for 50 years. He and his family enjoyed going to the drag races and to Glamis sand dunes offroad recreation area.
Edwin passed away October 1, 2008. He was preceded in death by 9-year-old son, Daniel George Higgins, who passed away in 1964. Edwin's son Daniel is laid to rest beside Edwin's sister Mary at Green Hills Memorial Park.
He was survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce; two sons, one daughter; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A Memorial Service was held to honor the life of Edwin Lawton "Cappy" Higgins on October 6, 2008 at McNerney's Mortuary, San Pedro. For additional information, an obituary was published in the Daily Breeze, Torrance, CA on October 4th and 5th, 2008.
