Mrs. Mattie Lou Welchel, 89, of Cartersville, passed away Monday, November 26, 2012, at her residence. Born in Piedmont, Alabama, February 8, 1923, Mattie was the daughter of the late James Montgomery Fortenberry and the late Mary Elizabeth Welchel.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Welchel and a daughter, Gail Harris.
Survivors include her daughters, Betty Gentry of Cartersville, Mary Worthington of Calhoun and Elizabeth Hinson of Cartersville; her sons, Bill Welchel of Cartersville and Lamar Welchel of Kingston; her sister, Margie McReynolds of Centre, Alabama; thirteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2012 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Reverend Charles Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Anderson-Reeves Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
