Steven Allen Kathman, the son of Billy and Mary (Heisler) Kathman, was born on March 2, 1965, in Emmetsburg, IA. He was raised also received his education in Ayrshire, graduating from Ruthven-Ayrshire High School.
Steven married Trudy Thomas on December 28, 1985, in Ayrshire. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Texas, for a short time, where Steven was involved in powerline construction. They then moved to Des Moines where he worked at the Des Moines Art Center. They eventually moved to Spencer and he was employed as a welder for Nolin Milling. Steven also painted water towers, build grain bins and worked at Perry Judds. Steven enjoyed fishing, camping and watching NASCAR.
