In Remembrance of Donald Caskey Hennigan

A memorial service to honor Donald (Don) Caskey Hennigan, a resident of Rockport, Texas and formerly of Longview, Texas will be held Saturday, August 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Reverend Kevin Wittmayer officiating in conjunction with Rader Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the home of Donald and Tracie Hennigan at #1 Chase Court.

Mr. Hennigan was born in Bienville, Louisiana on July 21st, 1930 and was called home on Thursday, July 28th, 2011 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his father, Lynthus Llewelyn Hennigan, his mother, Lillian Marie Caskey Hennigan and his brother, Jack Wyman Hennigan.

Mr. Hennigan attended the Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport, Mississippi and graduated in 1947. While attending the military academy he participated in many sports and in his senior year was elected captain of his football team. He was recommended for an appointment to the Academy at West Point. He accepted a football scholarship to the University of Arkansas. He later attended Louisiana State University and while there met, Mary Eloise Browning and they were married September 24th, 1949. At the start of the Korean War, he enlisted in the United States Army and attended OCS and Airborne Jump School. He was a member in the 11th Airborne Division with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After being honorable discharged at the end of the war he served in the Army Reserve with the rank of Captain. He returned to Baton Rouge to again attend LSU under the GI Bill and received a Bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering with a minor in physics. Upon graduation from LSU, Mr. Hennigan accepted a petroleum engineering job with Cities Service Oil Company where he worked in Oklahoma and Kansas. The move to Longview was made in 1963 when he accepted a job with Trice Production Company which latter became Oleum for which he served as Vice-President. Oleum latter merged with Falcon and Seaboard and Mr. Hennigan became Vice-President of Falcon and Seaboard Coal. He retired from this position in 1974.

While working at Trice Production, Mr. Hennigan in addition to Dale Thomas, Drew Pirtle and Charles Novy formed Four-Way Oil Company. In 1976 he formed Largo Oil Company and served as President until he retired to Rockport, Texas in 1994.

While retired, Mr. Hennigan remained active in his community by serving as President of the Bayhouse Condominium Association and President of the Bahia Bay Home Owners Association. He was a member of the regional chapter of the American Legion and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rockport.

Mr. Hennigan is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Eloise Hennigan, his son and daughter in law, Donald Caskey Hennigan, Jr. and Tracie Lea Hennigan of Longview, Texas, his daughter and son in law, Erin Hennigan Ballard and Monty Ballard, of Katy, Texas. Three grandsons, Michael Gatons of San Antonio, Texas, Ryan Waite, who is currently serving his county in Korea, and Matthew Waite of Katy, Texas, also his brother, Lynthus Llewelyn Hennigan, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and several nieces and nephews.
