Matthew J. Bortz, 28, of Mohrsville, was killed Wednesday, December 5, 2012 as the result of a traffic accident in the 400 block of Park Road, Richmond Township. He was the husband of Lauren E. (Pugliese) Bortz. They were married December 17, 2007.
Born in West Reading, he was a son of Janice L. (Oxenford) wife of David S. Sobotka, Esq., and Jeffrey H. Bortz, both of Kutztown. Matthew was a member of Saint Johns Lutheran Church, Kutztown. He was a 2003 graduate of Kutztown Area High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Kutztown University in 2007. Matthew was employed in production at East Penn Manufacturing Company, Lyon Station, last working December 4, 2012. He was a loving father and husband. He was always willing to help others.
In addition to his Wife and Parents he is survived by Daughters, Ryleigh M. and Lyla S. Bortz, both at home, and his Maternal Grandmother, Helen M. (Levengood) Oxenford, Douglassville. Other survivors include a Sister, Julie Ann Bortz fiancÚ of Walter Johnson, Bear, DE; Brother, Andrew M. husband of Jane V. (Balas) Bortz, Conshohocken, Montgomery County and Step Sisters, Jessica R. (Sobotka) wife of David Stahler, and Kaitlin A. Sobotka, both of Wyomissing and Step Brother, Kevin D. Sobotka, Kutztown.
Memorial Services are Monday, December 10, 2012, 7:00 PM in Saint Johns Lutheran Church, 201 East Main Street, Kutztown, 19530. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours or viewing.
The family requests contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the Matthew J. Bortz Memorial Fund for daughters Ryleigh M. and Lyla S. Bortz, c/o Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., P.O. Box 292, Kutztown, PA 19530-0292. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.-
A Centre Township man trying to pass a car while on his motorcycle collided head-on with a tractor trailer Wednesday morning, police said.
The Berks County coroner has identified the man as Matthew Bortz, 28. He died of head, neck and chest injuries.
The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Park and Lenhart roads in Richmond Twp. Park Road is also known as Fleetwood-Blandon Road.
Police said Bortz was driving west on Park Road when he went into the eastbound lane and hit the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Specifically: Interment private at the convenience of the family.
