This William's birthdate and Place have NOT been verified. Most earlier records from the US are lost for this time and place in Northhampton, NC. What does appear are records searched by kin located at the Library of North Carolina. The birth records of this William's older children have also been lost, but sufficient records appear to substantiate their data in other ways. Especially the recording of land and other legal means.

On July 1735 Richard Vick and Wife Sarah of Isle of Wight Co., VA sold for pound 10/10 to William Shuffell 130 Acres at Pattycasey Creek Adjoining John Finney. Witnessed by J. Turner, Jacob Vick. Deed proven in court 11 Nov. 1735.

November 1736 William Shuffield purchased for pound 50 from Richard Vick of Virginia 200 acres on Patecasy Creek near Pattay's Delight. Witnessed by Alexander Campbell and Jonn Rise.

After this William Shuffield's land fell into Northampton boundaries.

25 May 1750 William Shetfield, Henry Hart and Thomas Futral witnessed a deed from Joel Newsam of Northampton County to John Campbell of the Upper Parish of Nansemond Co., VA.

20 Nov. 1759 William Sheffield, so signing his name, was a member of a jury assigned to lay off 2 acres of the land of Thomas Futral and Henry Hill on Hunting Quarter Swamp to be used for a grist mill.
April 13, 1764, John Futral of Northampton sold to William Shuffield of the same 54 acres "beginning at the burned Gum in the run of Patty's Delight, thence N. 45 E. 48 pole to William Shuffields Corner thence along his line.... Witnessed by John Wade, Joseph (+) Powell.

The prior purchases account for 384 acres in the area of Patty's Delight and are the last entries of William found in Northampton, particularly no sales of land. However this land was divided by some means to sons the older West, and Arthur of Northampton, NC. These fellows are brother to John Sheffield, Isham Sheffield, William Sheffield and Martha Sheffield Allan of Duplin, NC.

The following Sheffields have entries in the Record of Estates Northampton County NC. V. I Accounts, Sales, Inventories of Accounts and Sales of Estates, 1781-1793. I took these directly from the microfilm reel. These are
payments into the accounty of Benj. Roberts. The account was settled in 1785, having been opened in 1772. Mr. Roberts may have been a merchant due the large number of payments to his estate (almost 200).
Dec 7, 1773 Ephraim Shuffield made payment
Aug 18 1774 Delilah Shuffield made payment of ..,5,6 1/2
Feb 25, 1778 Arthur Shuffield paid 3,3,7 1/2
