Ricky was born March 7, 1950, to Bobbie and Claudia Allen of Magnolia, MS. He was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard. He began his building career as a small boy working with his beloved grandfather, Carroll Allen, and continued this trade throughout his life. He also was a soy bean farmer for many years.

He was a person of many interest, most importantly he was an avid hunter. He loved to hunt deer, turkey, dove and coon. Coon hunting was his life. He loved to hear the dogs run and tree a coon. He was a member of the Finley River Coon Hunting Association. He would take nothing for his many years spent coaching football at Parklane Academy. He is fondly referred to by many of his players by Coach Ricky or "Smiley". Everyone who had the privilege of being coached by him was truly blessed. They all loved and respected him. Raising his children was his biggest achievement. His son, Bob, was his best friend. However he loved each and every one of his children dearly.

He graduated from Magnolia High School and Southwest Mississippi Community College. He was a true "bearcat" and an amazing ball player. He played all sports in school and continued to play fast pitch softball until he was in his forties. He was drafted by the LA Dodgers on May 27, 1968. But, due to unforeseen circumstances had to decline.

His survivors include his wife of 37 years, Anna Kathryn Allen, one son, Robert Bracken Allen, two daughters, Anna Maria Allen and Virginia Lea Allen Kelley, six grandchildren, Breanna Victoria Allen, Isabelle Grace Allen, Jacob Carroll Allen, Andrew Allen Kelley, Chole Lena Allen and Allye Kathryn Kelley. He was also survived by his brother and sister in law, Tommy and Mary Emma Allen, his sister and brother in law, Ted and Teresa Rayborn, his aunt and her husband, Carol Ann and Jimmy Alford, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and two dear friends Steve Fritton of Virginia and Henry "Chipper" Gibbes, III, of McComb.
