He married Caroline Lange in Germany.
Joachim emigrated in 1857 with his wife and children aboard the "Franz McHenry" arriving in New York.
His Declaration of Intent for citizenship was filed in the Circuit Court of Waukesha County, Wisconsin on 3 November 1857.
He and his family settled in Brillion, Calumet County, Wisconsin, where he was a farmer.
