SOUTH BEND - Ralph Anderson, 86, of South Bend, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Michiana Health and Rehabilitation Center, Mishawaka. Bill was born on December 18, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late John and Emma (Jenkins) Anderson, and had lived in this area since 1968, coming from Connecticut. On June 7, 1953, in Brooklyn, he married Ellen Marie (Ohlgren) Anderson who survives. Also surviving are a son, Craig (Mary Jo) Anderson of West Lafayette, IN; daughters, Cheryl (Joseph) Metzger in Osceola, Karen Anderson of Chicago, IL; and three grandchildren, Allison and Stephen Metzger of Osceola and Jennifer (Kevin) Thompson of West Lafayette, IN. Three sisters and a brother preceded Bill in death. Bill was a naval veteran of World War II, having served both in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters on board ship. He was a member of Bredablick Lodge F&AM in New York City, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and Orak Shrine Temple of Michigan City, IN. He was a past member of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity and was Past President of the South Bend Transportation Club. Bill retired from Uniroyal in Mishawaka after serving in NYC and Naugatuck, CT. Cremation will take place and a family gathering will be held at a later date.
