Sherman Church Woman Dies in Hospital Here
A prominent church and club woman, Mrs. H.H. Phares, 56, died at 2 pm Friday in a Sherman Hospital, following a cerebral hemmorhage suffered earlier in the day at her home, 805 South Hazelwood.
Mrs. Phares was a past deputy grand matron of the Grand Chapter of Texas, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member and a past matron of Carpenter's Chapter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Sherman Garden Club and the Sherman Board of Public Welfare.
Funeral services were held at 4 pm Saturday at the First Baptist Church, with Dr. J.A. Ellis, pastor, conducting. Interment was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park, directed by John C. Dannel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were D.D. Knox, T.A. Dickson, Ralph G. Hester, W.D. McElreath, Robert Dean and L.H. Young.
Mrs. Phares was born Aug. 24, 1892, in Tom Bean, a daughter of W.T. and Sarah Ann Foster Francis. She was married to Mr. Phares Dec. 24, 1914 in Sherman.
She attended the Bonham and Tom Bean schools and North Texas State Teachers College at Denton, and taught for several years in the Tom Bean schools.
Besides her husband she is survived by her mother of Tom Bean; two daughters, Mrs. Tommy McBride of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. James E. Odom of Sherman; one brother, M.L. Francis of Stillwater, Okla., and Mrs. Ernest H. Gant of Tom Bean; and two grandchildren, Michael and Patricia McBride.
Among those from out-of-town attending the funeral were Dr. T.G. Rogers of Decatur, worthy grand patron of Texas; and Mrs. Rogers, Grand Martha; and Mrs. Fred Sisson, of Denison, grand representative to South Dakota.
