Deceased Name: Lloyd B. Lyon
Our beloved husband and father died September 8th, 2001 in Palo Alto, California. He was born in Vernal, Utah June 5, 1925 to Charles William Lyon and Sarah Mary Pope Lyon .
He graduated from high school in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the Navy as America was at war.
In 1947 he received an honorable discharge as an Aviation Cadet V-5 USNR.
In 1949 he graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He was a member of the Utah Chapter of the National Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity, Chi Epsilon.
He returned to the University of Utah when a full fellowship towards a doctorate was offered by the Chemical Engineering Department to study the possibility of "liquefaction from coal." He became a member of the Sigma Xi Honorary Fraternity and also the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Most of his life was spent doing research in animal, plant and human nutrition.
He is survived by his wife, Alta Glover Lyon , San Ramon, California; one daughter, Ann Larkin, Salt Lake City, Utah; and five sons: Melvin, Ellisville, Missouri; Wayne, Palm Bay, Florida; Charles, Flagstaff, Arizona; Dallas, San Ramon, California and Monte, Imperial Beach, California; 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Keding, San Bernardino, California and two brothers, Jim ( Myriel ), Farmington, Utah, and Richard, Rescue, California.
Memorial Services will be held September 29, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Larkin Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 So., Salt Lake City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 307 West 200 South, Suite 3001, Salt Lake City, Utah. Interment will take place in Flagstaff, Arizona.
