He was born in Fulton, Missouri on March 1, 1920, the son of Frank and Beulah (Frank) Backer. He is survived by his daughter Celia Phillips (Harold) of Melbourne Florida, his brother, Howard Ray Backer of La Canada, California, grandaughter, Lisa Moore (Dan) and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his daughter, Barbara Boller.
Homer graduated from Fulton High School in 1938 and attended Westminister College for two years. He attended the University of Missouri Columbia and graduated with honors in 1942.
After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps.
Mr. Backer's ashes were scattered in the Indian River, Indialantic, Florida.
