HORTON, Kan. -- Mildred Jane (Wheeler) Lockwood, 83, Horton, formerly of Muscotah, Kan., died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at a Horton health-care center.
Mrs. Lockwood worked as a seamstress for the Horton and Holton (Kan.) Garment Factory until retiring.
Born Nov. 7, 1915, in Tyro, Kan., she was a member of the Whiting (Kan.) Chapter No. 287, Order of Eastern Star; and Muscotah United Church.
On Oct. 5, 1940, she married Levi R. Lockwood in Atchison, Kan. He died in 1969. Then she married Berney Lockwood on July 9, 1971, in Hiawatha, Kan. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Lockwood also was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Delia Wheeler; two brothers, Henry and Ernest Wheeler; and a sister, Mary McClenon.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Linda Lockwood, Atchison; two sons, Charles, Trimble, Mo., and Larry, Huron, Kan.; a brother, Walter Wheeler, Tulsa, Okla.; three sisters, Hazel Meerpohl, May Smith and Ruth Russell, all of Horton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Monday, Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, Horton. Burial: Brush Creek Cemetery, southeast of Horton. Visitation: after 10 a.m. today and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Muscotah United Church in care of the mortuary, 909 Central Ave., Horton, KS 66439.
