In Loving Memory
6/17/1954 ~ 10/17/2010

Our father, brother and friend has returned home to his heavenly father. He was born to Pearl Jeanette Huettel Sullivan and James Woodrow McDowell. He married Christine Cronin, October 15, 1971 and later divorced. He married Dawn Marie McAllen-McDowell August 9, 1980. Jon started his career working as a mechanic and later retired the wrench to pursue selling cars. At a young age Jon was faced with a life changing disease when he experienced his first heart attack at age 38 and later had to retire fully. In his earlier years, Jon enjoyed boating at Lake Powell and spending time with his many friends and family. Jon was unique in that he was so easily likable and formed instant friendships as soon as he said, "hello". He had a knack for talking your ear off if you'd let him. Jon was never ashamed of who he was and always wore his feelings on his sleeve for all to see. Jon was a devoted husband and father. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. After losing his wife to cancer in 2008, he put his energy towards spending his last remaining years with his children and grandchildren. He was so proud of all of them. When he'd see his grandchildren, his eyes would light up brighter then the stars. He was so proud and felt blessed to have watched them grow. Jon is going to be terribly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children Byron Jon McDowell, Crystal Shipler (Jeremy), Brandon McDowell and Tommy McDowell. His siblings Sharlene Sullivan Kinsman (Clint) Carol Jean Carroll (Glenn), Jenice Davis, Marsha Case (Russ), Eddy Sullivan (Joanne), and his grandchildren, Measha, Cearra, Alexa and Tamya McDowell as well as many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, mother, father, step-father Terry E. Sullivan, and brothers: Roy E. McDowell, David Sullivan and Brent K. Stewart. A viewing and graveside service will be held on October 22, 2010 at Garner Funeral Home, 1001 11th Avenue, Salt Lake City from noon to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers an account has been set up at Zion's Bank to help the children with burial cost. We love you and miss you Jon!!!!!!
