"Karen Janell Durham Phillips, 34, of DeSoto, Texas, died Wednesday, August 30, 2000 in Colmesneil, Texas.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 1, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Colmesneil with burial in Bethany Cemetery near Colmesneil. Officiating at the services were Dr. Chris Seidlitz, and Pastor Daren Hearnsberger.

Serving as pallbearers were Vance Cowart, Rusty Minyard, Rusty Hunter, Doug Wood, Phillip Mashaw, and Ryan Durham. Honorary pallbearers were members of her "Class of 1984".

Visitation was held on Thursday, August 32, 2000 from 3 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Janell was born September 26, 1965 in Tyler County, Texas. She was a former longtime resident of Colmesneil and had lived in DeSoto for the past five years. She was a member of Winsor Park Baptist Church in DeSoto and an active participant in the "Women's Race For The Cure."

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Willie Lee and Jewel Durham. She is survived by her husband, David Phillips of DeSoto; parents, Leonard and Betty Durham of Colmesneil; grandparents, Chuck and Lavern Wood of Colmesneil; brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Robin Durham of Lawton, Oklahoma; and nieces, Courtney and Hayley Durham of Lawton, Oklahoma.

Services were under the direction of Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
