Rosa (shown as Rose, 10 years old, in the 1870 census and as R. E. in the 1880 census) was the fifth of six children born to William Edmund WEBB (1827-1906) and Esther Craig LAWRENCE (1826-1903).

Rosa was married to Henry Thomas MCBRIDE (1859-1894) on 19 Jun 1879 in Camp County (adjacent to Wood County) Texas. She was 19 and he was 20. Their only child, Lawrence Webb MCBRIDE was born 12 Aug 1880. He was apparently named for Rosa's older brother, Robert Lawrence WEBB, who apparently died young, between 1870 and 1880 when he was 12-22 years old. No trace has thus far been found of Robert Lawrence WEBB after the 1870 census.

Rosa and Henry were recorded in the 1880 U.S. Census for Hopkins County, Texas on 01 Jun 1880. He was recorded as 21 years old, married, married during census year, and clerk in store. She was recorded as 20 years old, married, married during census year, and keeping house.

Rosa died in 1881 when she was only 21 years old. She may have died as a result of childbirth complications or from some other illness or injury.

Lawrence's death certificate is posted here on Rosa's memorial page. It identifies Rosa as his Mom and thus helps keep her memory alive even though she died when he was probably less than 1 year old.

Following is an excerpt from the publication Biographical Souvenir of the State of Texas, Containing Biographical Sketches of the Representative Public and Many Early Settled Families, Illustrated, Chicago: F. A. Battey & Company 1889, from p 539 in the sketch about Mrs. E. J. McBride.

Henry T. McBride, the eldest of the above enumerated children, was born in Hopkins county, Texas, July 9, 1859, and was married in 1879 to Miss Rosa Webb, daughter of William E. Webb, of Texas, and to this happy union has been born one child, Lawrence. Mrs. Rosa McBride died in 1881, a member of the Baptist Church.

Rosa WEBB MCBRIDE's father's WEBB ancestors (thus, her, her son's and his descendants' ancestors as well), with help from the WEBB Surname DNA Project, have been traced back through South Carolina to the Jamestown, Virginia area to Robert WEBB who immigrated from England in 1687.

He is believed to have been from the Bushley area in Worcestershire, near Tewkesbury, which is northwest of London, England. The creator of this memorial and his wife visited that area of England in May 2013. A photo of the Bushley area, near where some of his WEBB ancestors are believed to have lived, is posted above. Some STOKES family members lived near the WEBB family and had interactions with them in Virginia.
