Lacy Hayes (Sr.) of Harrisburg passed peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice residence. He was born in Dunn, NC on May 31, 1925, the youngest of eleven children born to Steven Leonard Hayes & Mary Hayes, all of whom are deceased.
He is survived by his wife Helen (Shive) Lippert Hayes whom he married on April 10, 1974; his children Faye Bailey of Virginia Beach, Lacy Jr. & wife Deb, & Terry Hayes, all of Harrisburg; his grandchildren Michael Bailey of Philadelphia, Erin Hayes (Evan Cameron) of Carlisle, and Donovan & Tori Hayes of Easton who are expecting his first great-grandchild this month. Three stepchildren and their families also survive: Earl "Butch" Lippert (Pat), Middletown, Carol Popp (Frank), Harrisburg, & Judy Putric (Ed), Middletown.
Lacy served in the US Navy during World War II from March of 1943 until his honorable discharge in December of 1945. He worked for the Reading Railroad from 1946 to 1986, first as a fireman and later as a locomotive engineer. After retiring he became an avid bowler, twice rolling perfect 300 games while enjoying many hours with friends new and old.
All are welcome to a memorial service to be held at New Hope Church, 584 Colonial Club Drive, Lower Paxton Township, at 12 noon on Friday, March 8, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m. The family will also receive visitors on Thursday, March 7, from 7-9 pm at the same location. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg PA 17110 or The Bridge Church, 220 S. Hanover St., Hummelstown, PA 17036.
