Robert Dean Ostlund, 81, passed away March 16, 2008. He was born April 2, 1926, to Einer E. and Nettie Ivie Ostlund in Snoqualmie Falls, Washington. Following his graduation from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington, he worked at Todd-Pacific Shipyards building aircraft carriers for use in World War II. He later attended Brigham Young University with a declared major in chemistry. He developed many other talents and interests, including woodworking, motorcycle riding, photography and historical research.
Dean married Renee Jensen and they were the proud parents of five children. Renee died in 1986. Dean retired as a printer at Geneva Steel Company. He was a member of the LDS church and served in auxiliary callings and as a home teacher. Dean married Lois Jane Grogan in June, 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; a daughter, Larene (Harold) Hawkins, sons, John (Cindy) and Reed (Janis); 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 5 step-children and 11 step-grandchildren; a brother Bert L. (Margaret) Ostlund. Dean has now joined the loved ones who passed on before, his parents; wife, Renee; a daughter, Kathy; a son, David; and a grandson, Brian.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Orchard 4th Ward Chapel, 670 East 800 North, Orem. Family and friends may call on Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Berg Mortuary, 500 North State Street, Orem, and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the chapel.
