He was the son of John E. Pridgen & Mae Oakes. He went to work building houses with his father at an early age, and also worked for the railroad. He served in the US Army from August 1940 to July 1945. While in the Army he served in England, Scotland and Ireland, and landed on Normandy Beach within a few days after D-Day. While in the Army, he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. He first married the former Etta Brooks on 14 Dec 1942, she passed away on 23 Nov 2000. He later married Betty Lou Reid on 8 Mar 2002. He was a Boy Scout Leader for many years, member of Cambridge Lodge No. 1272 BPOE, member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion, and a member of Choptank Post 7460 VFW. He was active in the coffee group which met six days a week.
