Homer Vance Fish, 68, resident of 226 Swing About, born November 16, 1943, in Waynesville, NC, to John H. and Clara Lou Welch Fish, and husband of Carolyn Hunter Fish, died February 26, 2012 at his home.
He was a graduate of Canton High School, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a graduate of Blue Ridge Technical College. Vance was a US Navy Veteran and began his electrical engineering career with Cutler Hammer (now Eaton, Corp.) working in Ashville, NC and Athens, GA. He was later employed by Alphabet, Inc. in Burlington, NC, Stow, OH and Greenwood, SC, where he founded his own company, Vansco, Inc.
In 1995, Vance, being a proud Navy Veteran, began and hosted the 4th of July Firework display at his home which stared an annual tradition for the Stoney Point Community and Lake Greenwood.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are five step-children, John Mills and Lisa Mills Childs, all of Fletcher, NC, Hunter Mays Ward of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Lee Mays Varner of Dublin, GA and Alison Mays of Columbia, SC; five step-grandchildren; five brothers and sister, Faye (Joe) Teixeira of Canton, NC, Sharon Fish Moore of Crabtree, NC, Joe (Carolyn) Fish of Canton, NC, John (Nancy) Fish of Inca, NC, and Wayne (Nellie) Fish of Lexington, NC.
A celebration of Vance's life for family and friends will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 4, 2012, at his home in Stoney Point with Dr. Chris Leonard officiating.
