Jean R. Coulahan Age 79 and a long time geriatric nurse, died Tuesday afternoon, September 4, 2012 at Fairwinds-Desert Point assisted living facility in Tucson. She had been under the loving and dedicated care of Casa de Luz Hospice.

Jean born in New Haven, CT to Mary Ward Ryder and William Joseph Ryder and was the youngest of five siblings.

She graduated from new Britain General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. Upon graduation, she worked at VA Hospitals in both CT and MA. In June, 1957, she married Vincent P. Ringrose, Jr., MD and together they had four sons; the marriage ended in the early 1970's. In 1977 she met Col. John E. Coulahan, Sr. (USAF, Ret.). Upon John and Jean's marriage Jean also welcomed John's four children, Pamela, Christopher, Lisa and John, Jr., all of whom survive her.

Jean and her husband spent many years in Westerly, RI and soon began spending their winters in Tucson, where Jean fell in love with the beauty of the desert. For five years she worked as an Oasis tutor. Jean and John were true "Snowbirds" and for many years they traveled by auto across the US as they made their way back to the east coast for summers. They loved the adventure of travel, especially from the decks of cruise ships, where they could often be found, and were fortunate enough to take two around-the-world cruises.

Jean is survived by her husband, John, who was the love of her life. Also surviving her are sons, Michael, Patrick and Daniel of CT and Vincent III of VA and her five grandchildren, Kevin, Brian, James, Thomas and Aisling. Additionally, Jean is survived by two sisters; her inseparable friend and older sister, Carol Ryder Beatson, who lived in Tucson for many years before relocating back to CT, and her eldest sister, Mary Ryder Hoff of Bethesda, MD. She was predeceased by her two brothers, John and William Ryder. She also leaves many nieces and nephews throughout the US, all of whom she loved deeply. She especially wanted to thank her four boys for "lighting my Way out of the darkness into the light of life."

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hope House in Marsing, Idaho; the local Alzheimer's Chapter, or to Casa Del Luz Hospice in Tucson.

Her final request was this, "Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, laugh and talk as though I were beside you. I loved you all; 'twas Heaven here with you'."

Private Funeral Memorial Services will be held at West Point, N.Y. Arrangements will be made by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave., Tucson, Arizona 85719.
