Viola Colson, longtime resident of Wellington, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the age of 88.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2003 at First Baptist Church. Rev. Derwin Comer, minister of youth and music and Rev. Elvis Pitts, retired Baptist minister, officiated.

Pallbearers were Randy Davis, Randy Motsenbocker, Danny Gray, George Porter, Rodney Porter and Carroll Nunnelley.

Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Colson was born November 8, 1914 in Weatherford to William H. and Annie M. Beene Moody. She graduated from Wellington (Texas) High School with the Class of 1935. She married W.E. "Jack" Colson on July 20, 1935 in Wellington. He died in 1988.

She came to Wellington in 1922 from Weatherford. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was active in WMU and Keenagers. She was a former member of the Home Demonstration Club, RSVP and the VFW Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Survivors include three sons; James Colson of Lubbock, Ronnie Colson of Murphreesboro, Tennessee and Darrell Colson of Wellington; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
