Ben Simpson of Merrill is Upset Victim
Benjamin N. Simpson, 49, life-long resident of Merrill, was killed Thursday afternoon when the tractor he was riding and a mower roller over him on a grade on a railroad right-of-way a half mile south of Merrill. He had been mowing weeds along the right-of-way when the accident occurred. He had been dead for some time before his body was discovered. Mr. Simpson had been section foreman for the Illinois Central railroad for 12 years prior to 1954. Since that time he had been first man in the section. He married Rosalie Burrill, November 3, 1937, at Merrill. Survivors include the widow and three sisters, Miss Cleo Simpson of Sioux City and Mrs. C. L. Hodapp of Merrill and Mrs. C. C. Christian of San Francisco. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard. Funeral services were at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Assumption at Merrill, Rev. Lloyd Carel officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery at LeMars with the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home in charge. The rosary was recited at 8 o´clock Friday at the funeral home in LeMars.
