Calvin B. Smith, 73, of 7222 North St., Arlington, died at 7:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
Born July 4, 1925, in Rush County, he was the son of Charles and Myrtle (Winkler) Smith. He married the former Oda Mae Meyer on Aug. 5, 1944, and she survives. He lived all of his life in Rush County and was a truck driver with Schnadig Corporation for 33 years. He was a member of the Rushville, Eagles Lodge #2036, American Legion Post #150, and the Carthage F&AM-Rush Lodge #580. He was a U.S. Army veleran having served in World War II. He also served in the Merchant Marines.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters: Marsha (Mrs. William) Callahan of Morristown, Glenda (Mrs. William) Eschenbach of Moose Lake, Minn., and Pamela Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister: Francis Hauk of Rushville; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with the Rev. Deann Anderson officiating. Burial will be at the Arlington East Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites observed. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. tonight at the mortuary with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
