Latney was born as the son of Marshall and Sallie Unknown Osborne. He is first found with his parents on the 1840 Patrick Co., VA census.

DNA testing has been done which says he descends from Richard Osborne born in England and dying in New York in mid 1700s. Even with that data we have not been able to establish who the parents of, Latney's father, Marshall were. We believe he comes out of an Ezekiel Osborne family found on NY census in 1800 and 1810 and not traceable after that. Latney's father, Marshall Osborne, is first found on the 1840 VA census as married with four children. Then the Marshall Osborne family are always found in the NC census from 1850 till their deaths. Thus we have this one missing link in the paper trail to connect Latney William Osborne to his earliest ancestor.

He married Dorcas Todd in NC and lived his life there. The couple had serveral children but only two survived to adulthood and only one Edward C. Osborne had offspring.

He had brothers, Thomas M., a doctor living last in Knoxville, TN; David/s that could never be traced past the 1850 census; Ezekiel Newton Osborne #35516633 serving 54 NC CSA and prisoner of war, captured at Rappanahanak Station, VA and held in Sandusky, OH until released at end of war - was prisoner for over two years, but living out life in Norfork, Baxter Co., AR, dying there in 1911; Peter Andrew Osborne #24089025, always living in NC; and brother Isam who lived in NC and died about 1905. He had sisters Victoria, and Sallie #46862018 found on 1900 NC census, also Candace and Elizabeth not traceable.

The Osborne family was always in the Harness Shop Business and are found on early day Charlotte City Directories listing such.
