US Navy sailor. He was a water tender on the USS Samuel B. Roberts, a destroyer escort, which fought valiently and was later sunk during the Battle off Samar Island in World War II. He was one of many men adrift in the ocean after his ship sank. He died of wounds and exposure after being rescued by Patrol Craft 623.
