Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairbury, with the Rev. Frank Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Fairbury. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Fairbury and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Johnston was born Sept. 6, 1919, at Gillett, Wis., the daughter of Louis and Harriett Hanson Bocher.
She attended school in Laona, Wis., and later attended nursing school at Grant Hospital in Chicago, where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1942.
She married Dr. Darol H. Johnston on May 24, 1941, in Chicago. Dr. Johnston, who survives, opened his dental office in Fairbury on April 3, 1946, after serving as a dentist in the U.S. Navy for three years.
They are the parents of six children, Darol "Skip" Johnston of Fairbury, Deborah (Jack) Holderer of Mahomet, Randolph Johnston of Chicago, Steven (Debra) Johnston of Peoria, Michelle "Mickey" (Dennis) Hallstein of Minier and Janine Johnston of Newark, Del. Also surviving are one sister, Lucille Stauber of Laona, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fairbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Fairbury or the Evenglow Inn in Pontiac.
