Tennessee slave bought by plantation owner General Paulding Anderson in Big Spring, TN. at the age of 7 or 8 years old. Jordan or Jordon was born around 1825.

Son, Col Patrick Henry Anderson owned Jordan Anderson by the mid-1840's. Jordan Anderson married Amanda McGregor in 1848.

Jordan Anderson was freed by Union Troops camping on the plantation in 1864 by the Provost-Marshall-General and spent his remaining 40 years in Ohio.

A letter of his was dictated by Vanentine Winters a Dayton, Ohio banker who once hosted Abraham Lincoln. Winters, an abolitionist, regarded the letter as excellent progaganda and originally published the letter in 1865. Today it is praised as a masterpiece of satire.
