Born in about 1839

Enlisted on 22 September 1861 at Albany, New York into the somewhat "elite" 44th New York Volunteer Infantry. There were specific requirements that had to be me to even be considered. Had to be at least 5 feet 9 inches tall, single and of good moral character.

Mustered in as a private in Co. K on 25 September 1861 going south with the regiment and into camp at Halls Hill, Virginia. They wintered over there.

Was wounded on 27 June 1862 at Gaines Mill, Virginia. Apparently wounds were severe enough that he was discharged for disability on 23 February 1863 in Philadelphia.
