Robert Glunt enlisted in the Army on November 24, 1942 and volunteered for parachutist duty.

He was assigned to the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) and completed his basic training with them at Camp Blanding, FL. The entire regiment then went through jump school at Ft. Benning, GA in early 1943.

Bob was awarded his parachutist badge on March 12, 1943 after completing five jumps "from an aircraft in flight".

Cpl Glunt was awarded a Bronze Star Medal during his WW-II service which included the jump into the Normandy on D-Day.
