Elwood, Kans--Robert N. Frakes, 77, Elwood, formerly of DeKalb, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at a local hospital with his family by his side.

Robert was the son of Thomas Tilford "Rube" Frakes and Iva Elizabeth (Hiatt) Frakes, and was born August 31, 1933 in DeKalb, Mo., where he lived most of his life before moving to Elwood. He was a 1951 graduate of DeKalb High School and later served in the Army. Robert was a member of American Legion Post 58 and retired from Omnium. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his garden and yard, where he was every chance he got

Robert was preceded in his death by his parents, brothers, Tilford, Harold, and Calvin; sisters, Elsie Hitt, and Edith Miller, and two grandchildren.

In 1953, Robert married JoAnn Schommer in Hiawatha, Kan. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors and their spouses are sons, Neil, Girard, Brion (Connie), and Ben (Michelle) Frakes; daughter, Melanie (Don) Chevron; brothers, Joe and Ben Frakes; sisters, Ruby Panigot, Eleanor Boyer, Laura Belle Sampson, and Irma Gill; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Clark-Sampson Funeral Home with cremation following the service. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
