Robert E. Scott 83, of Brownsburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 12, 2011 at the family farm surrounded by his wife, son and daughter. He had courageously battled Malignant Mesothelioma for 15 months.
Bob was born to the late Calvin and Edna McCallie Scott on August 18, 1927, in Indianapolis. He graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1946, where he excelled on the varsity basketball and track teams. In 1951, Bob married Iva Mae Monger, also a graduate of Ben Davis.
A Korean War Army veteran, he was assigned to D Battery, 145th Artillery, 45th Division as an Artillery Mechanic and served honorably in the National Guard after active duty. Bob was a master carpenter and retired farmer who found great enjoyment in restoring John Deere tractors and displaying them in local parades. Bob was a champion chess player and competed in many tournaments over the years. An avid military history buff, he took particular interest in studying the events of World War II. Bob and his wife were longtime members and officers of the Square Uppers square dance club.
Bob was preceded in death by brothers, Clyde, Kenneth (Becky) and Charles (Velda), and sister, Irene (Milton) Beasley. In addition to his wife of nearly 60 years, Bob is survived by his brother, James Scott (Patty) of Whitestown, two children Steven Scott (Denise Whitaker) of North Richland Hills, Texas and Linda Davis (Ron) of Zionsville. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Nathan and John Scott, Dustin McCoy, and Brittany, Brian and Alissa Davis as well as one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Per Bob's wishes, there will be no calling or memorial service. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at the family farm at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation - 1317 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
