Joanna was a lifelong Christian and member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved music, and sang beautifully. While growing up in the Blytheville and Piggott area, Joanna performed every Sunday on the radio in a gospel trio with her sisters and later two friends.
Joanna enjoyed decorating her home with her collection of porcelain dolls, music boxes, and other delicate things. She also loved flowers and worked as a florist for Carolyn Hobbs Florist, Spooner House of Candles, and Carousel Florist, and later at Union Medical Center.
Joanna's greatest joy in life was her family. She and her husband had 3 sons and nearly 60 wonderful years together, and, in her later years, she was most often surrounded by her doting grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and her loyal teacup poodle, Muffin).
Joanna Smith died at her home on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at age 74 following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009, in the Chapel of Bailey Funeral Home. Joanna's grandsons served as pallbearers, and she was interred at Arlington Memorial Park.
