|Mary Ann Stone Botts|
Mary Ann Stone, dau. of Thomas B.S. Stone and Nancy Ann Murphree, b. in 1857 prob. at Ozark County, Missouri.
In the June 1880 census of her widowed mother's household at Galena, KS, in the household was 4-year old grandson James T. Botts, his surname errantly written as "Batts," b. in 1875 likely at Joplin, Missouri. However, dau. Mary Ann was not enumerated in the household.
On Oct. 4, 1874 at Jospin, MO, Miss Mary "M." Stone m. Mr. James T. "Batts" [sic, Botts] (by J.S. Maddy, JP.) They had one known child, James Thomas Botts, Jr., b. Dec. 16, 1875 at Missouri (WWI draft reg.). Mary Ann and James Botts undoubtedly divorced since in 1894 Mary Ann provided a supplemental affidavit for her mother's pension application as "Mrs. M. A. Cullifer." If the 1920 obituary for her brother Claude L. Stone is correct, Mary Ann was still living in May 1920, but where and under what surname has not been found. On the other hand, Mary Ann's presumed first husband repeatedly identified himself as a widower in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses.
