Katharina Wolfert was born in Russia and Immigrated to the USA in 1910. She married John Hoffmann prior to 1924. In the 1920 Federal Census she was residing with her husband John in Stutsman County, North Dakota. October 21, 1924 she married Andreas A. Kunz in Campbell County, North Dakota. Andreas and Katharina had two children Albert and Martha Kunz. (Martha married Karlo Kasper Witikko.) Andreas and Katharina were divorced and she married Karl Schafer, December 2, 1934 in Campbell County, North Dakota.
Andreas A. Kunz married Katharina (Wolfert) Hofmann on October 21, 1924. She had six children from her previous marriage to John Hofmann. They were Peter, Emillete, Alvina, Phillip, Elizabeth and Arthur. Two children were born to Andreas A. and Katharina Kunz. Albert was born on May 18, 1925 and Martha was born on May 24, 1927.
Katharina (Wolfert, Hofmann, Kunz) married Karl Schafer on December 2, 1934 and lived at New Leipzig, ND. This would have been her third marriage and she helped raise several of Karl's children from his previous marriage. Some of her own children from the Hofmann marriage entered the military service and a couple of her daughters married. Katharina's sister, Mary (Wolfert) and husband, Henry Nathan, took care of Emillette Hofmann until she entered the Tuberculosis Sanitarium at San Haven, ND where she died in her early 20's. Henry and Mary Nathan also adopted Martha Kunz. The date of this adoption is unknown. About this same time, Martha's brother, Albert Kunz, went to live with the John Haid family at Linton, ND.
Katherine Schafer is buried in the City Cemetery in New Leipzig, Grant County, North Dakota
