EDWARDSBURG, Mich. — Iva D. Burkett, 79, of Edwardsburg, died at 10:09 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Elkhart (Ind.) General Hospital.She was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Dalton, Ga., to Robert and Mabel (Springfield) McCoy. On Dec. 2, 1949, in Dalton she married Jack O. Burkett.He survives along with two sons, Jack (Regina) Burkett and Jeffrey (Linda) Burkett, both of Elkhart. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Josh (Trisha) Taylor, Amanda (David) Martin and Alison Burkett; two great-grandchildren (Brianna & Zoie); and one sister, Bobbie (John) Lewis of Stockbridge, Ga.She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.Iva was a member of the Quarter Century Club at CTS and Winding Waters Brethren Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher's aide and a member of the Pace Setters Senior Group. She was a member of the Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary and Delta Theta Chi sorority, an associate member of the First United Methodist Church in Moultrie, Ga., a former member of the Adamsville United Methodist Church and a member of the Council on Aging. Iva enjoyed reading and calling her congressman on a regular basis, who, in turn, would send her a personal response letter. She and Jack had delivered for Meals on Wheels for the past 10 years. Iva worked at CTS Corp. for 37 years, retiring in 1989. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastors Ron Walters and Jeff Lewis will preside. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or Three Cross Church in Elkhart.
