Thurman, Herman and Vernon were the sons of Sheridan and Versie (Nimmo) Mahler. They were the first triplets to be born at Hamilton Hospital in Olney and the first set to be delivered by Dr. George Hamilton.
Thurman grew up in the Jean and Olney area. During his high school years he was a projectionist for the Westex Theater in Olney. In 1944, he along with his brothers, joined the Navy. On October 12, that same year, they would be the first set of triplets to enter the California Naval Base for basic training. He served on the LST-620 in the Pacific during WWII as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class.
He was married to Hazel Dunaway of Olney. He and Hazel raised two sons, Mike and Stan.
He owned and operated Mahler Pipe and Supply Inc. from 1970 to 1994 in Olney, as well as partnered with Jack Scott in Mahler-Scott for 42 years. He was also a partner in Langford, Mahler and Scott for 12 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Archer City, the National Cutting Horse Association, the West Texas Cutting Horse Association and the American Legion. He raised and showed cutting horses and cattle until his death. He was a former member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Olney, the Olney Lions Club and the Olney Boots and Saddle Club. He was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Mahler on December 20, 1989.
On January 30, 1982 he married Marcia Farmer McGriff in Archer City, Texas.
Survivors at time of death included his wife, Marcia Mahler of Archer City, Texas; children, Mike Mahler and wife, Vicki of Olney, Stan Mahler and wife Charlotte of Olney, DeLane Wilson and husband Gary of Plano, Texas, Tammy McLaine of Dallas, Texas and Angela Steele and husband Larry of Archer City, Texas; one brother, Vernon Mahler and wife, Reba of Elbert, Texas; grandchildren, Brooke Kulhanek and husband Shane, Jessica Lauchner and husband Nathan, Micah Morris and husband Lieutenant Will Morris, Matthew Mahler, David Mahler and wife, Erin, Ashley Wilson, Taylor Wilson and London Steele; and great grandchildren, Kortney, Laney, and Walker Kulhanek, Tristan and Peyton Morris, and Madison Lauchner.
