Joe Mack Calton, 68
SURGOINSVILLE - Brother Joe Mack Calton, 68, of 346 Gravely Road, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday (September15, 2002) at 9:30 p.m. at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center following an extended illness.
Joe Mack was a life long resident of Hawkins County (Carters Valley Area) and was a member of Carters Valley Independent Baptist Church. A loved man with many friends, Joe Mack finally lost a long battle with cancer. He was a veteran and served in the 82nd Airborne Division.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Kay Sandidge and his father, James Calton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Helen Crigger Calton, Surgoinsville; two sons, Marvin Dale Calton, Surgoinsville; Wendell Lee Calton, Sr., Arkansas; two daughters, Melissa Jo Johnson, and Amy Sue Shafer, both of Surgoinsville; his mother, Ruth Jones Calton, Surgoinsville; seven grandchildren, five step grandchildren; three brothers, Kyle Calton, Church Hill; Jimmy Calton, Rogersville; and Robert Calton, Surgoinsville; two sisters, Bobby McFarland, Surgoinsville; Donna Kelly, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lester Helton and the Rev. Danny Clark officiating.
Graveside services with military honors conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Cemetery.
