Bo Diaz
Birth: Mar. 23, 1953
Miranda, Venezuela
Death: Nov. 23, 1990
Capital District, Venezuela

Professional Baseball Player. A native of Cua, Venezuela, Baudilio "Bo" Jose Diaz Seijas played in the Major Leagues as a catcher for 13 seasons. He is widely considered to be the finest catcher born in Venezuela. His success in baseball was noted before he was even a teenager. His champion Little League team had a bid to attend the Little League World Series, but had to cancel their trip when an earthquake devastated their country. Diaz made his Major League debut with the Boston Red Sox in 1977 when he was 24 years old, only making one plate appearance before he was traded to Cleveland during the off-season. He became an All-Star in 1981 and was traded to Philadelphia the following season where he became a battery mate with 1982's Cy Young winner Steve Carlton. He played in the World Series in 1983 where he went 5 for 15 and hit a team best .333. After an injury plagued season in 1984, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. He set a Major League record on June 27, 1986 when out threw out Robby Thompson four times while attempting to steal a base. He made the All-Star team again in 1987 and was named as the National League player of the month for July. During his career, he played in 993 games, with 87 homeruns, and had a .255 lifetime batting average. He last played in 1989 and sat out the 1990 season. Diaz was killed in an accident at his residence in Caracas, Venezuela while repairing a satellite dish. He was 37 years old.  (bio by: K Guy)
