U.S. Congressman. Elected as a Whig to represent Kentucky's 4th District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1845 to 1847. He graduated from Centre College in 1828 and completed his law studies at Transylvania Law School in Lexington, Kentucky. He practiced as a lawyer in Danville, Kentucky. He served one term as a United States Congressman and declined to become a candidate in 1846. He was appointed as the Secretary of State in Kentucky in 1849. He was a delegate to represent Kentucky at the Peace Convention in Washington D.C. in 1861 in an attempt to prevent civil war. He then became a member of the Kentucky legislature from 1862 to 1867 and declined to accept nomination to become a candidate in Kentucky's gubernatorial election in 1863. He was the great-grandson of Colonial Virginia prominent surveyor and cartographer, Dr. Thomas Walker. Bell County, Kentucky is named for him. (bio by: K Guy)
