Philip Sydney "Red" Ehret
Birth: Aug. 31, 1868
Jefferson County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Jul. 28, 1940
Hamilton County
Ohio, USA

Professional Baseball Player. He played Major League Baseball for 11 seasons and made his debut with the Kansas City Blues in 1888, when he was 19 years old. He was a well traveled right-handed starting pitcher and played for Kansas City, the Louisville Colonels, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Browns, and the Cincinnati Reds. His finest season was in 1890 when he won 25 games and finished second in the league with the lowest Earned Run Average. The Colonels went on to play the World Series that year against Brooklyn, and Ehret pitched in 3 of the seven games, winning two, throwing for 20 innings, and only allowing 3 runs. He was also spectacular at the plate during the series, with 3 hits in 7 plate appearances including a triple. However, no winner was declared as both teams won three games and finished to a tie in game seven. He also had seasons when he won 16, 18 (twice), and 19 games. He led all National League pitchers with four shutouts in 1893. He appeared in a total of 362 games, had 309 game starts, with 139 wins against 167 losses. He hurled 14 shutouts, logged nearly 3000 innings, and posted a lifetime 4.02 Earned Run Average. He also umpired several games.  (bio by: K Guy)
