Janet Ruth (MacDougall) Adams, age 78 of Hurley Drive, in Shippensburg, died peacefully Monday, May 21, 2012 at home surrounded by family. She was the loving wife of Dr. Lynn Adams. Born Monday, March 5, 1934 in Merchantville, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Alan and Rebecca (Townsend) MacDougall.

Janet graduated from Shippensburg University at age 45 Summa Cum Laude in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She later achieved a Masters Degree in Environmental Education. She was a forest ranger for the state of Pennsylvania and went on to develop the Ranger Rick program for elementary students at Kings Gap Environmental Education and Training Center. Janet was an active member of the Master Gardeners Society, a lobbyist for the Audubon Society, a longstanding member of the Shippensburg Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder/Deacon and administrator for the church's food bank program. She received accolades for her volunteer work at Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve as a conservator, consultant and naturalist. Janet was an avid outdoors woman who loved to hike, canoe, whitewater raft, ski, golf, wildlife/bird watch and travel extensively near and far.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sisters, Margaret Kirk and Sarah MacDougall; nine children: Robert Rossner, Michelle Fanelle, Lawrence Rossner, Gavin Rossner, Andrea Rossner, Sharon Smith, Steven Adams, Sandra Aurand and the late Keith Rossner; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Janet lived life to the fullest and treasured the time spent with her family. She will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, May 27 at 3:00 PM at Shippensburg Presbyterian Church, 12 South Prince Street with Reverend Mike Miller officiating.
