Afflicted by a malignancy, Charles Melvin Armstrong, East Galesburg, died Saturday night at 11:13 o'clock in Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Last August 15 Mr. Armstrong was forced to retire from active work because of illness.
Although he had resided at different communities, Mr. Armstrong had always lived in this immediate area. He was born at Wataga, April 19, 1889, and as a youth resided in Galesburg where he attended Weston school. He was a member of Central Congregational Church here.
Mr. Armstrong was interested in the rearing of horses, but this was in the form of a hobby.
Surviving are his wife, the former Florence E Taylor to whom he was wed at Rock Island, September 18, 1916; his mother, Mrs. Louise Delhane of Milan; and eight children, Mrs. Martha M Thompson, Peoria; Mrs. Agnes Mannen, Galesburg; Richard H with the Army in Germany; Charles A, Mrs. Phyllis Clark, Betsy, Laverne and Ronald, all at home.
Brothers and sisters surviving are Mrs. Liela Johnson, Peoria; Mrs. Altha James, Watseka; Mrs. Virginia Robertson, DeLong; Harlan of Peoria, Claud and Harriet, both of Galesburg. There are seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Kimber and West mortuary where friends may call tonight. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Rites for Charles M Armstrong, East Galesburg, were held at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the Kimber and West mortuary with Rev. Arthur Benson of Wataga presiding. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Clapp, accompanied by Miss Muriel Snell, sang.
Pallbearers were George Casade, Arthur Deese, William Newkirk, Howard Dee, Lenn Denisar and Bert Townsend. Burial was at Linwood Cemetery.

In 1917 was working as a teamster for the Glenwood Ice Company in Galesburg. In 1942 was listed as unemployed.
